El Paso Barroco and the Sunset Parlor present: Concerto all'inglese featuring soprano Leah Wenger of the Peabody Conservatory at the Johns Hopkins University. 

Join us and experience the equally beautiful and bizarre English Baroque on period instruments as we take you to 17th-century England. Hear the works of the Baroque masters Handel, Boyce, and Finger, and how they imported this art movement from Italy to England,  now on the border for your enjoyment.

El Paso Barroco:

Drawing on the talent of musicians from the El Paso, Texas / Ciudad Juárez border and around the world, El Paso Barroco (EPB) is a conductor-less collective of musicians dedicated to historically informed performance. 

EPB offers musicians opportunities to perform on replicas of period instruments, bringing history to life through sound. Our mission is to provide the El Paso / Juárez community with immersive, historically informed experiences that introduce students, musicians, and audiences to the rich heritage and artistry of early music.

Since its founding in 2017, EPB has collaborated with partners such as the El Paso Museum of Art, Paso del Sur, the University of Texas at El Paso, the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez, New Mexico State University, and Johns Hopkins University.

Leah Wenger: 

Leah Wenger is a vocalist, curator, and musicologist based out of Minnesota’s Twin Cities. Specializing in early and new chamber ensemble repertoire, she received her M.M. from Peabody Institute with degrees in Historical Performance Voice and Musicology in 2024. In past seasons, Leah performed regularly as a soloist and ensemble singer in the Baltimore/DC region, including engagements with Dualis Ensemble, Anchorites Ensemble, Bach in Baltimore, Handel Choir of Baltimore, the Emmanuel Choir, Baltimore Basilica Schola Cantorum, and the National Cathedral Choir. In August of 2026, Leah held a Vocal Fellowship with the NEO Voice Festival, where she premiered new compositions and explored new ways that her early love for Appalachian Folk music could be nurtured in classical spaces. For the 2026-2027 season, Leah is based out of Minnesota’s Twin Cities where she has worked with the Minnesota Opera Chorus and The Singers. 

Leah works to bridge the gap between scholarship and performance through research-informed interpretation and intentional curation. She is a founding member of several ensembles including Basso Celestia Early Music and Ladies Out Loud vocal ensemble. Her musicological research explores intersections of music, religion, history, and psychology, and has been presented at conferences both in the United States and abroad. Alongside her artistic work, she has professional experience in mental health, student life, and psychology.
